This article, which states evidence that lasik is safer than contact lenses, reduces my nervousness about my upcoming laser eye surgery.
Mathers argues that while long-term contact users suffer vision loss at a rate of one in 2,000, laser patients have serious complications just one time out of 10,000.
In about a month I will not need my specs anymore. I am so excited!

I'm such a chicken regarding this surgery. 4 or 5 people in my office have had it done and have had zero problems and can see perfectly. I still have a problem with the re-shaping of the eye.

No idea where he gets his figures, but serious complications on lasik is pretty low. Plus they can touch up lasik after 90 days if it's not quite right. Just make sure you follow all the antibiotic drops and cleaning your face and oil/vitamin directions.
Brendan, I was the same way until the ultrawave came out and there are no razor blades used to cut the flap, and the laser computer assumes the eye is a curved surface, not a flat one. Success rate went up quite a bit, but was already pretty high on getting at least 20/40 if not 20/30 or better.

I did some research and found that most of the time when someone had a complication, it was because they weren't fit for the surgery to begin with but had it done anyway.

Very true. The others are ones that don't follow the instructions about keeping eyes closed, using drops, or try to do too much too soon after (was like 3 days of no running, impacts to the head, or sneezing or straining, and 14 days of no skydiving or swimming). I figure you will be careful and turn out quite well.
