I'm a spreadsheet geek so I whipped up a cost comparison of the four largest laser eye surgery providers in town.
Haven't decided yet who I'm going to choose.

Don't go just by cost. Other things to consider in decision making on this one are things like:
1. How many has this guy done in the past?
2. Is it Lasik, or the newer Ultrawave Lasik? (US made Lasik machines treat the eye as a flat surface, the newest German machine treats the eye as a curved surface - an interesting difference).
3. What sort of guarantee is there - if it doesn't come out better than 20/40, is there a re-do in 90 days for free?
4. Are you willing to accept 20/40?
5. What sort of pre- and post-care instructions are you getting in the form of dry eye prevention or infections?
6. Are they using the old razor blade to make the cut, or the newer laser method for the flap?
7. Can you find others that have used those doctors and talk to them?
8. What sort of training and teaching has this buy done in the past? You might not want a flap-and-zap guy that went to one seminar for 4 hours, when there are guys out there with 20 years of being on the leading edge of laser eye surgery, taught in several countries, bought the newest equipment, and run their own clinics while teaching at a university hospital eye clinic.
Differences are critical.

yeh, I asked those questions ... the four I listed are the ones who have experience (none of those tiny strip mall places). Only VA does the flap via laser so I decided to go with them. They also provide 2 yrs post op free.

Cool, I knew you would avoid the strip mall places anyway. I picked mine partly on cost, but also he had over 20 years with laser eye surgery, teaching, latest machine with laser flap cutting and curved eyeball assumption. Make sure you take your flax seed oil capsules, eyedrops, someone to take care of you for the day of and day after, and (gulp) you have to lay off the training for a couple of days before and after. No contacts but I don't remember for how long prior to the exam and the operation. Good luck! I love the way mine turned out.

I'm too analytical not to evaluate cost comparisons. However, I am not going with the least expensive choice. I choose the doctor who does the cut with a laser.
